Judge Your Betting Expert

It’s hard not to be intimidated by professionals. After all, these are the people who really understand the score and can really navigate the system. Unfortunately in the wide world of sports investing, there is no universal standard for evaluating a betting expert.

Many of these experts operate blogs, advice columns, tips sheets, or coaching schools for gamblers. They make a living not from their own bets, but from the fees they collect from other punters. As such, the advice that they give often has absolutely no basis in real outcomes. A fair few of them are absolutely trash, spouting advice that has been disproven over and over again.

Despite this, punters still want to hear from experts. Winning bets is an art, not a science, right? It is helpful to get a master’s perspective . . just not a quacks. To help you assess the quality of your personal betting expert, here are a few metrics to use to judge them.

Background Check
Where did they come from, and how can you be sure of their record? If they claim to be former coaches or former bookmakers, can this be proven? Do they make any effort to show you that they can be taken at their word, or could they just as easily be some stranger up in Leeds spouting a bunch of lies?

Present Affiliations
Are they independent operators, or are they affiliated with another group? In general, independent operators are more suspect (on the face of things) than employees of a betting exchange or bookmakers. This is because independent operators have had no one to account to for some time, so they could be quite off the rails with no one to steer them right.

Quantity of Advice
Some betting experts have a tip for every single item under the sun. It is unlikely that even a professional tipster can correctly provide data for tennis, football, and cricket all at the same quality level. You may be better off choosing someone who has specialized, so that they can dig in for you instead of giving surface fluff.
