Aalesund went down to a 3-1 defeat away at the hands of Start last weekend, and they now have a bottom half clash with Mjondalen with a vital three points up for grabs in their respective fight against relegation.
Aalesund currently occupy 11th place in the Norwegian Tippeligaen just one league position and one point above today’s visitors Mjondalen, and their recent form has been mixed with losses to Viking and Start while they secured a win over Haugesund in a 2-1 victory.
In addition, Aalesund have drawn with Odd Ballklub and Stabaek in 1-1 draws recently, while their overall home record stands at 2-3-2 8/11 with just one defeat from their last five at their Color Line Stadion. They’ve recently beaten Bodo/Glimt and Haugesund and drawn with Sarpsborg and Stabaek.
Visitors Mjondalen go into tonight’s clash with Aalesund on the back of three stalemates with Sarpsborg, Haugesund and Sandefjord in 1-1, 1-1 and 2-2 results respectively. They occupy 12th place in the Norwegian top flight with all three of their wins so far this season being recorded at their Isachsen Stadion.
Mjondalen have now gone six matches without a win in the Tippeligaen, a run which includes three defeats to Valerenga, Molde and a heavy 5-1 loss to second from bottom club Bodo/Glimt quite recently which doesn’t bode well for their trip to Aalesund today.
The visitors’ overall away record stands at 0-3-3 7/14 with only bottom club Sandefjord also yet to win on the road while Haugesund are the only team to have scored fewer away goals than Mjondalen in the Tippeligaen so far with 4 goals to their name.
In summary, I believe Aalesund have the greater momentum going into today’s clash, but give the quarter ball in case this ends up a draw. That said, Aalesund might just sneak a 2-1 win here.
