Stanley and Shakers should both score tonight

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 27th January 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Following three defeats from their last four in League Two, Accrington Stanley will no doubt be keen to put an end to their slide down the division before it turns into anything more sinister.

Losses to York City, Tranmere Rovers and AFC Wimbledon were all against bottom half opposition which hasn’t helped their cause, neither is the fact that they’ve played their last four matches overall away from home. They did manage three points however in a 2-1 win at Exeter City earlier in the month, but I reckon they’ll be glad to be back on home turf tonight.

Looking at Accrington’s home record, it stands at a pretty reasonable  6-2-3  18/14 and John Coleman’s side have suffered just one defeat from their last five matches (a 3-2 loss to the same Exeter City), but registered wins over Hartlepool United, Morecambe and Cambridge United along with a point against league leaders Wycombe Wanderers in a creditable 1-1 draw in their last home match.

Accrington forwards McCartan and Maguire looks the likeliest anytime goalscorers, along with midfielders Gray and Naismith who have both notched 4 goals apiece to date.

Bury’s play-off hopes were given a a boost on the weekend when they notched up a 2-1 home win over League Two strugglers Carlisle United at Gigg Lane which handed The Shakers their third league win in five matches.

Earlier wins over Northampton Town and Mansfield Town along with a point against Wycombe Wanderers have kept them in the hunt for a play-off place, and indeed they have moved up into seventh place as a result of their win on Saturday.

However, Bury’s away form will need to improve if they’re to stay in the top seven as they’ve racked up just one win from their last eight away matches, which was a 3-2 win at Northampton. Their overall away record stands at a below-par  3-3-6  14/18 but they have scored in five of their six encounters away at bottom half opposition so far this season.

Forwards Nardiello and Rose look good anytime goalscorer prospects for the visitors tonight.

This is a tough match to gauge an outcome in terms of result, but I’ll back both teams to find the net in what could perhaps end up a 1-1 draw.
