ACCRINGTON v PLYMOUTH – Pick: 1 – 27 September 2014

Stanley to disrupt Plymouth pilgrimage

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 27th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Manager John Coleman’s return to the helm at Accrington Stanley was celebrated with an extraordinary 5-4 win away at Northampton Town last Saturday, and they have more than a fighting chance of registering back-to-back wins here this afternoon with the visit of Plymouth Argyle.

After James Beattie’s resignation, former manager Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell marked their return with a precious three points for Stanley at Northampton and they’ve now climbed away from immediate danger for the time being having won three of their last four now in League Two.

Accrington have signed a few new players on loan and one of them, O’Sullivan, scored a brace against The Cobblers with fellow loanee Maguire adding another. Results have improved on home turf also following their opening loss to Southend United, as they’ve held Luton Town to a draw and beaten Tranmere Rovers 3-2 and AFC Wimbledon 1-0.

Accrington’s home record therefore now stands at  2-1-1  6/5.

Onto Plymouth Argyle now and they currently occupy a mid-table position thans largely to their solid home form at Home Park where they’ve lost just once in their first five matches there. However, their away form is far from steady as they’ve won just once on their travels from the last six away matches which was at Luton Town recently.

Defeats at Cambridge United, Bury and Morecambe perhaps show why they’re not considered serious challengers for at least a play-off place right now, and their current away record of  1-0-3  3/5 confirms this as they’ve won on just three occasions from the last eleven on the road.

To sum up, the Coleman factor should not be underestimated with regards Accrington Stanley, and given their great win at Northampton Town last weekend, any odds exceeding the 3.00+ mark have to be taken on the hosts against a side who have struggled away from home in recent weeks. Accrington might edge this one 2-1.
