ACCRINGTON v ROTHERHAM – Pick: Draw – 27 November 2012

Stanley & Rotherham look set to share points

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 27th November 2012 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Mid-table Accrington Stanley take on play-off candidates Rotherham United at their Fraser Eagle Stadium on Tuesday night in League Two’s solitary fixture with the hosts keen to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

Indeed, Accrington Stanley have lost just once in their last six matches which was a 2-4 home loss to much-improved Northampton Town but apart from that result, there has been improvement for Stanley with wins over Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood Town along with draws against Morecambe, Barnet and Gillingham which has seen them steadily climb up the table and away from immediate danger of the bottom two.

Accrington Stanley’s home record stands at  3-2-4  10/13 and their leading scorers are Romauld Boco (7 goals, 2 assists), Padraig Amond (7 goals, 1 assist) along with Peter Murphy and George Miller (3 goals each) along with a certain James Beattie who has scored 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 matches, the former Southampton, Everton, Stoke City, Rangers and Sheffield United striker showing he can still score goals and must surely still be a threat at this level.

Jekyll & Hyde side Rotherham United make the trip to Lancashire on the back of an away win at Exeter City 1-0 and they are on the road again for Tuesday night. They’ve been blowing a bit hot and cold of late with a home win over Cheltenham Town 4-2 a couple of weeks ago but they’ve also lost against Dagenham & Redbridge where they got thrashed 0-5 and a surprise 2-3 defeat at home at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers in midweek last week.

The south Yorkshire outfit have been pretty solid at home so far this season but away from home is where the opportunities lie for their opposition with an away record of  2-4-3  9/15, but they have lost just once in their last six away matches which will give them hope for at least a point in tonight’s match.

Rotherham also have a few attacking outlets with the likes of leading scorer striker Daniel Nardiello (8 goals, 2 assists) along with Ben Pringle and Michael O’Connor (4 goals apiece) with Pringle also chipping in with 4 assists. Dangerous forward Alex Revell (3 goals) will also need close attention.

Accrington Stanley earned a good point at home to Gillingham on Saturday while Rotherham United got a result at Exeter City, and while Accrington Stanley have drawn three of their last five matches, this is not the main reason for my pick being a draw here tonight; I think both teams are evenly matched at the moment and I think it’ll be a score-draw.

I think this is likely to end up a 1-1 draw tonight.
