Alfreton to take Nuneaton to task at the Impact Arena

Saturday 29th March 2014 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Third placed Alfreton Town will be keen to return to winning ways when they host play-off hopefuls Nuneaton Town at the Impact Arena on Saturday afternoon following defeat at Halifax Town during the week.

Alfreton suffered their first Skrill Premier defeat in four matches when they were beaten 0-2 at The Shay against Halifax on Monday night, but with a very impressive home record under their belts going into today’s encounter, Alfreton will no doubt be looking to post a further three points to their tally as they go for a 14th league home win.

Alfreton are unbeaten in their last seven at The Impact and have recently registered wins over lowly Hyde and Tamworth 3-0 and 4-2 respectively but possess an overall home record of  13-3-2  38/22 with likely anytime goalscorers being striker Akinde (12 goals, 10 assists), Shaw (8 goals, 5 assists) and Clayton (6 goals) with Bradley supplying 9 assists to date.

Nuneaton Town dropped out of the play-off pack during the week after their Thursday night defeat at Braintree Town 1-2 and that’s now back-to-back losses for the midlanders who had previously lost away at Grimsby Town 0-1. Nuneaton did manage recent home wins over Welling United and Tamworth, but it should be noted that both of these were on home turf while Nuneaton’s away performances have left a lot to be desired in recent weeks.

With just one away win from their last nine matches on the road, it looks more than likely that Nuneaton will have to depend on their solid home form to see them through to a play-off place but they remain just behind Braintree Town who are in 5th place but possess a better goal difference.

Nuneaton’s overall away record stands at  6-6-8  24/31 but their real Achilles heel has been their defence away from home who have racked up just two clean sheets all season and will face another going over from the Alfreton attacking unit here this afternoon I daresay.

Alfreton’s home form has been very impressive all season and with home advantage behind them, they should have enough about them up front to exploit Nuneaton’s flimsy defence – give the quarter ball to be safe, but Alfreton should win this one perhaps 2-1.
