ALFRETON v TORQUAY – Pick: 2 – 11 October 2014

Gulls to extend Alfreton's misery

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Saturday 11th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1730hrs

Hosts Alfreton Town will be hoping to break their horrific run of form which has seen them lose four Conference matches on the trot and drop down to second from bottom in the non-league top flight.

As if four straight defeats against Dover Athletic, Halifax Town, Aldershot Town and Gateshead weren’t bad enough, they were all to nil as Alfreton have now gone a massive 360 minutes without scoring a single goal.

Alfreton’s last win was a 1-0 home win over fellow strugglers Nuneaton Town while their overall home record reads  2-1-4  8/13 with their only other win being a 3-2 victory over bottom club AFC Telford.

A different calibre of opposition awaits them this evening as they take on fifth placed Torquay United who are desperate to make a swift return to the football league.

Onto the visitors then, and Torquay bounced back with a 2-1 home win over 8th placed Wrexham last Saturday having previously suffered back-to-back defeats against AFC Telford 3-4 away in what was a bit of a shock result, and a 1-2 loss at Forest Green Rovers.

But The Gulls will be hoping to transfer last week’s good win into today’s trip to Alfreton as their form on the road has been a bit hit-and-miss lately. Torquay’s away record stands at an indifferent  3-1-3  12/10, but where better to bounce back with an away win than at Alfreton who have lost their last four on the trot?

So, to wrap up, given Alfreton’s poor dip in form (and you’d think morale as well), I’ll back Torquay to bag the three points tonight with the added incentive of perhaps jumping up into second place if other results go their way. Torquay to nick this perhaps 1-0.

Pick: Torquay United straight win @ 1.83 William Hill
