ANDERLECHT v APOEL

Football – Europe – Europa League Betting Tips

Belgian side Anderlecht registered a second consecutive win on the weekend when they beat Waasland-Beveren at home in the Belgian Jupiler League, with this result following a valuable 1-0 win away at tonight’s opponents APOEL last week.

That first leg win in Cyprus has set Anderlecht up for progression into the quarter finals of the Europa League, and having won their last four matches in all competitions at their Stade Constant Vanden Stock in Brussels, the home side must surely fancy their chances here this evening.

In addition, Anderlecht have won seven of their last nine at home in the Europa League, so they look strong candidates to account for APOEL here. Watch out for striker and leading goalscorer Teodorczyk (20 goals) for the hosts.

Visitors APOEL progressed through to the last 16 of this competition thanks to an impressive 4-3 win on aggregate over Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the previous round, but I fear their adventures in europe may well be at an end when they make the difficult trip to Belgium for this vital second leg.

The Cypriot side trail by just one goal, but they now have to depend upon a very frail (and dare I say, woeful) history of results away from home in the Europa League which has seen APOEL lose eight of their last nine on the road.

That solitary win came in a 1-0 victory at Olympiakos back in September, but they’ve conceded 17 goals and scored just 6 in reply during this very poor nine-match sequence.

I’ll therefore side with Anderlecht for the win tonight.
