Fifth placed Antalyaspor will be keen to end their successful Super Lig season on a high when they take on already relegated Gaziantepspor at their Antalya Stadyumu in Antalya on Friday evening, as the hosts look to continue their steady progress in the Turkish top flight.
Antalyaspor were promoted from 1.Lig to the Super Lig a couple of seasons ago, and they’ve made steady progress as they’ve finished ninth and now fifth in successive seasons with the big boys. Next season may perhaps see them make a serious challenge for a Europa League spot, although they’ll need to improve upon their consistency away from home if they’re to do so.
On home turf, they hold a pretty steady 8-4-4 16/15 record as well as winning their last three matches on the trot overall, including a 2-1 win away at Fenerbahce. the other two wins were over Bursaspor (at home) and Kasimpasa (away).
As mentioned earlier, visitors Gaziantepspor have already been relegated as they sit second from bottom in the Turkish top flight and some nine points adrift of safety with this being the final match of the domestic season.
Gaziantepspor have captured just seven league wins so far in their disappointing Super Lig campaign, four of which were registered at their Gaziantep Stadyumu, and they make their way to Antalya looking to avoid a fifth consecutive league defeat on the trot.
Defeats to Akhisar Belediye, Galatasaray, Rizespor and Besiktas have contributed to them falling through the trap-door to 1.Lig, and with an overall away record of 3-3-10 14/32, it’s hard to see how they’re going to get anything out of tonight’s clash.
