Group E is up next with a look ahead at the fixture between hosts Armenia and visitors Kazakhstan when the group matches of the World Cup qualifying European section resume, and Armenia will have one eye on moving up the group ladder in this clash.
With third placed Denmark having to travel to fourth placed Romania also this evening, Armenia, who are just three points behind Denmark, will be looking to seize a possible opportunity in gaining ground on the teams above them in Group E.
Armenia’s three points came in a 3-2 home win over second placed Montenegro, and having gained supremacy over Kazakhstan in their previous two meetings, winning 3-0 and 1-0 respectively, they have a good chance of taking something from this encounter.
Visitors Kazakhstan sit bottom of Group E with just two points to their name following 2-2 and 0-0 draws at home with Poland and Romania respectively. However, two straight heavy defeats away from home at Montenegro 5-0 and Denmark 4-1 doesn’t bode well for their trip to Armenia, despite being just a point behind their hosts.
Kazakhstan possess a very poor record away from home historically in World Cup qualifying campaigns and seven defeats from their last eight trips underlines the problems they’ve had in trying to keep up with other european nations.
In fact, Kazakhstan have gained just one point from these last eight matches which was a disappointing 1-1 draw at Faroe Islands back in 2013, and you have to go all the way back to 2009 for Kazakhstan’s last away win, which was a 3-1 win at Andorra.
I’ll give the quarter-ball on the hosts for a little insurance, but I’m expecting Armenia to grind out a win here this evening.
