There’s been a changing of the Garde (excuse the pun) at Villa Park with new manager Remi Garde taking over the reigns of the beleaguered west midlands club as he looks to revive the fortunes of the rock-bottom club.
Aston Villa currently sit bottom of the pile by some margin as they have earned just 6 points so far this season and already find themselves eight points adrift of Norwich City and safety with a visit of in-form Arsenal this afternoon looking to test them to the limit.
Villa are still without a home win as their poor record of 0-2-5 5/10 shows, and the loss of striker Christian Benteke was the catalyst to the trouble they find themselves in now. They’re also 14 matches without a win in the Premier League as the rot as well and truly set in, and I seriously doubt a fledgling manager such as Garde has the necessary experience to lift them out of the doldrums.
Onto Arsenal, and the London club’s fortunes couldn’t be much further away at the other end of the spectrum as they secured their passage into the last 16 in the Champions League during the week when they beat Greek outfit Olympiakos 3-0 away.
Arsene Wenger’s side now turn their attentions back to the Premier League on Sunday as they look to build upon last weekend’s 3-1 home win over Sunderland, and they’ve lost just once in their last nine matches overall in the league.
Away from home, Arsenal hold a pretty steady 5-1-2 16/8 record and with wins at Leicester City, Watford and Swansea City on recent away trips, they look the favourites to walk away with all three points here today – hence my pick.
