ATALANTA v NAPOLI – Pick: 2 – 29 October 2014

Napoli to edge poor hosts

Atalanta go into tonight’s clash with Napoli hoping to replicate the result they achieved last time out on home soil when they beat Parma 1-0, but their opponents tonight will surely be a tougher test.

Atalanta dropped back down to earth again however, as their next match (last weekend), ended in a 0-2 defeat away at Udinese which has left them two places and just one point above Palermo and the bottom three in Serie A.

But being back in their own back yard is no guarantee of further points for the hosts here tonight as they’ve already previously lost to Fiorentina and Juventus along with just a point against Hellas Verona, while their overall home record stands at  1-1-2  1/4 with a lack of goals being their obvious downfall at the moment.

Visitors Napoli have had no worries in the goalscoring department recently as they trounced Hellas Verona 6-2 on Sunday evening which maintained their top half status, but a further three points tonight could see them jump up into one of the European qualification positions.

In fact, Napoli have scored a total of 14 goals in their last five matches as they’ve remained unbeaten during this sequence with wins over Sassuolo, Torino and Hellas Verona along with draws against Palermo and Inter Milan.

Away from home, Napoli have lost just once in their last seven matches, a record which stretches back into last season’s campaign, while this term’s record on the road currently stands at  2-1-1  5/4.

Strikers Callejon and Higuain (the latter scoring a hat-trick on the weekend), look the most probable anytime goalscorers for the visitors tonight.

Given Atalanta’s recent poor form, I see value in backing Napoli in this one with perhaps a 2-1 win.
