Football – Europe – Champions League Betting Tips

Atletico Madrid progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League by virtue of seeing off German side Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 on aggregate, which was actually achieved away from home in the first leg!

The Spanish hosts hold home advantage in this quarter-final first leg against Premier League outfit Leicester City at their Estadio Vicente Calderón this evening, and they’ll fancy their chances of gaining the upper hand in this opening encounter on the back of taking a point off Real Madrid away from home in La Liga on the weekend.

Atletico Madrid will be focused on winning this match to take a lead over to England, but at the same time will be careful not to give Leicester City the chance of staying in the tie with an away goal here.

Visitors Leicester City have staged something of a comeback in recent weeks in the Premier League as well as continuing their fantastic journey into the unknown in the Champions League as they line up against Atletico Madrid in this evening’s quarter-final first leg.

Recent league wins over West Ham, Stoke City and Sunderland have helped lift The Foxes up into a more respectable mid-table position, and even more importantly, eight points ahead of third from bottom club Swansea City and the relegation zone.

They come into this match having lost 4-2 at Everton though, and although Leicester have given a great account of themselves in this elite european competition so far, I do feel that overcoming a very strong Atletico Madrid side may well be a bridge too far.

Manager Craig Shakespeare is expected to set his side up to avoid defeat here, and I don’t think we’ll see a flood of goals in this first leg as a result.
