Atletico Mineiro bounced back from a rare 1-0 loss away at Corinthians last weekend with a 1-0 home win over Figueirense on Saturday to maintain their position at the top of the Brazilian top flight.
This recent win is now seven wins from their last eight matches overall, and they now sit two points clear of Corinthians who occupy second place in Serie A. Sao Paulo remain unbeaten on home soil and it’s this form that has propelled them into the top positions in Serie A, but their away form has let them down so far this term; the visitors have lost three of their last four on their travels with defeats at Palmeiras, Atletico PR and Sport Recife.
Only a 4-0 win at third from bottom outfit Vasco da Gama prevented them from perhaps four losses on the bounce. Sao Paulo’s away record stands at a below-par 2-1-4 6/9 as a result, and they look like they’ll have their work cut out here tonight if they’re to get anything from this encounter.
