AZ Alkmaar play host to Nijmegen at their AFAS Stadion as they look to transfer their form in the Europa League to that of the Dutch Eredivisie having made a bit of a slow start to the new domestic campaign.
AZ Alkmaar have accounted for the likes of PAS Giannina and Vojvodina in the qualifying and play-off phase in the Europa League and they have progressed through to the group stages. They will now look to their Eredivisie form on Sunday afternoon as they look to improve upon their current league position of 10th place.
This will be only Alkmaar’s second home match of the new season following a 2-2 draw with Heerenveen, which were then followed up with a defeat at PSV and an away win at Utrecht, but their home record last season finished up on a pretty good 10-2-5 38/24.
Visitors Nijmegen head into Sunday afternoon’s clash away at Alkmaar on the back of an unbeaten start to their new Eredivisie campaign having drawn with PEC Zwolle and Go Ahead Eagles and then securing all three points with a 2-1 home win over Heerenveen last weekend.
However, Nijmegen are not renowned for their abilities to grab points on a consistent basis on their travels in the Eredivisie, and this is further supported by the fact that they’ve failed to win an away match from their last 12 trips.
Indeed, they’ve gained just one away win from their last 16 matches on the road, which, incidentally, was a 4-2 win at this afternoon’s opponents AZ Alkmaar – but their wins on the road have been very few and far between!
