Following Banfield’s 0-0 draw away at Union Santa Fe last weekend, they now return to their more familiar surroundings of their Estadio Florencio Sola ground in tonight’s match against third from bottom club Arsenal de Sarandi.
Although Banfield lost last time out on home turf against Belgrano, tonight’s hosts have lost just once in their last five matches overall having grinder out points against Newell’s Old Boys, Sarmiento and Union Santa Fe along with a 1-0 win away at Quilmes.
Banfield currently occupy 13th spot and there’s still plenty of work to do particularly at home where they’ve registered an overall home record of 2-3-4 8/11 so far.
Visitors Arsenal de Sarandi have registered some mixed results in recent weeks with wins at home against Crucero del Norte and Argentinos Juniors which were the sandwich between a home defeat to Gimnasia La Plata and an away loss at San Lorenzo.
Delving a bit deeper into Arsenal’s away form though finds them struggling near the foot of the division having lost five of their last six on the road with defeats at Independiente, Velez Sarsfield, Sarmiento, Belgrano and San Lorenzo. In addition, during this sequence, Arsenal have scored just once and conceded a total of 13 goals in reply. Not good.
Neither is Arsenal’s away record of 0-2-6 1/14 with the obvious difficulty of finding the back of the net on their travels which has been their achilles heel away from home.
So, despite Banfield’s average home record, I’ll back the hosts to secure the points here in what could be a dour 1-0 victory for the hosts.
