Barnsley and Millwall will meet at Wembley on Sunday afternoon to determine which team secures promotion back up to the Championship along with already promoted Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion from League One.
Barnsley sailed through their play-off semi-final against west midlands outfit Walsall as they romped to a 6-1 aggregate scoreline over the two legs thanks to a 3-0 win at Oakwell and then completing the demolition job at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium a week after with a 3-1 victory.
Barnsley have lost just once in their last nine matches overall in League One and they bring a fair amount of good form with them into this final having won five of their last eight with wins over Oldham Athletic, Peterborough United, Wigan Athletic and Walsall twice.
Striker Winnall (23 goals) and midfielder Hourihane (10 goals) are the main danger men in attack for The Tykes.
Millwall perhaps have a slight advantage here this afternoon as they are a London based club and they are expected to receive support from a lot of fans based around the capital, but on the day as we know, anything can happen.
The Lions also bring a good run of form with them into this League One play-off final having also lost just once in their last nine matches overall. In addition, Millwall have won six of these last nine and their brand of attacking football has paid dividends so far as they are now just ninety minutes away from a return to the second flight.
It has been a meteoric rise for former Halifax striker Lee Gregory (20 goals) as he’s helped his side to the final, having played Conference football for a few seasons, he’s almost within touching distance of Championship football. Morison (16 goals) and O’Brien (10 goals) are also dangerous up front for Millwall.
This should be a much more open and attacking match, so I’ll back both teams to score here this afternoon.
