BATE Borisov progressed through to the third qualifying round of the Champions League following a 4-2 aggregate win over Finland side SJK and they hold home advantage at their Borisov Arena in the first leg of this final round.

BATE are actually unbeaten in their last seven matches overall which includes wins over Krumkachy, Torpedo Zhodino, Vitebsk and Isloch in the Belarus Premier League along with the previous round win over SJK.

BATE also featured in last season’s Champions League and made it all the way through to the group stages where they registered a 3-2 win over Roma along with a point earned against Bayer Leverkusen in a 1-1 draw.

Visitors Dundalk defied all the odds by seeing off Iceland outfit FH Hafnarfjordur by virtue of the away goals rule following their 2-2 draw in last week’s second leg in Iceland. The Irish side drew their first leg at Oriel Park 1-1 with FH, and they showed they are no pushovers at this level.

Dundalk are unbeaten in their last five matches overall and although they have progressed through to the third qualifying round of the Champions League, they’re still yet to win a match at this level – of the four matches they’ve played so far, Dundalk have drawn three and lost once.

Incidentally, Dundalk lost 2-1 in last season’s away leg to this evening’s opponents BATE, so track history is not on their side for Tuesday night’s encounter.

I’m expecting BATE’s experience to shine through over the next two legs at this stage.
