Football – England – EFL Cup Betting Tips

The newly-named League Cup begins on Tuesday night under the new banner of the English Football League Cup (or EFL Cup for short), and my first pick features Championship side Birmingham City taking on League One outfit Oxford United at St.Andrews.

Birmingham City have been under a tumultuous reign in recent years of their former owner Carson Yeung, but the club seems to be slowly emerging from their financial coma, and with one of the most promising managers in the Championship, former player Gary Rowett at the helm, The Blues can look forward to a season of greater stability.

Birmingham drew their opening Championship match at home with Cardiff City 0-0, but they’ve now gone four matches without defeat which includes pre-season matches with 2-0 and 4-0 away wins at Port Vale and Kidderminster respectively.

Visitors Oxford United also shared the points in their opening match of the new League One season with a 1-1 stalemate against Chesterfield at the Kassam Stadium. Since the end of the League Two season (where Oxford United gained promotion up to League One) though, Oxford have now gone five matches overall without a win.

Their pre-season games either ended in draws (1-1 v Solihull Moors, 3-3 v Barnet) or defeats (1-2 v Leicester City, 0-4 v Brighton), so it’s been a while since they tasted a win. It has been a period of 15 years since Oxford United were in the third tier of English football as they were relegated down to League Two and then were in the Conference for a few seasons before their revival.

Former striker Kemar Roofe has since moved to Championship side Leeds United, but former Birmingham City striker Wes Thomas is in line to face his former team-mates at St Andrews this evening.

Pick: Birmingham City to win @ 2.05 Bet Victor
