BLACKBURN v DERBY – Pick: 1 AH0 – 17 September 2014

Rovers' home form key against Rams

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Wednesday 17th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Blackburn Rovers go into tonight’s home match with Derby County on the back of a great derby win over Wigan Athletic 3-1 at the weekend, and no doubt Rovers will want to continue their unbeaten form at Ewood Park here this evening.

Blackburn are currently  2-1-0  7/4 which is just as well as their away form has been as poor as their home form has been good, with Rovers recently suffering back-to-back defeats in the Championship on their travels.

But on home turf, the hosts are now nine matches unbeaten and they’ll fancy their chances of getting something out of tonight’s clash given their strong results of late at Ewood Park. Jordan Rhodes remains a constant threat but there’s also Gestede (3 goals) and midfielders Cairney and Marshall also capable of finding the net – indeed, the latter scored a brace against Wigan on Saturday.

Derby County will have been the happier of the two sides at the City Ground at the weekend when they grabbed a point against arch rivals Nottingham Forest in the east midlands tussle with former Newcastle United striker Leon Best popping up with the equaliser with just 10 minutes remaining.

Too many draws though recently have prevented Steve McClaren’s men from breaking into the play-off places but the season is still young, and a point at Ewood Park tonight would be considered a good result I feel.

Derby have drawn three of their last five and have beaten Fulham 5-1 at home whilst losing away at Charlton Athletic 2-3. The Rams are still without an away win so far this campaign with an away record of  0-2-1  3/4 and indeed, they’ve won just once from their last five on the road.

Blackburn look a solid bet not to lose tonight, but with Derby’s recent spate of draws, I recommend taking the round ball on the hosts which is still priced at odds a touch over evens. Rovers might steal this one perhaps 1-0 as a possible scoreline.
