BLACKBURN v FULHAM – Pick: 1 – 31 January 2015

Rovers to return to winning ways

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 31st January 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

With no wins from their last five matches in the Championship, Blackburn Rovers will be desperate to gain all the points in this afternoons clash against bottom half Fulham at their Ewood Park ground.

Blackburn slumped to a third defeat in five matches away at Derby County in midweek along with earlier losses against Bolton Wanderers and Wolves, while they gained just single points in draws with Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic.

This run of poor form has cost Blackburn dearly and they now appear to be out of contention for a play-off place unless they can string together a run of six wins on the trot or more. The positive for them though is that they have lost just three matches on home turf this season and they entertain a Fulham outfit who have been pretty ordinary on the road so far.

Onto the visitors then, and Fulham have recently recorded back-to-back wins in the Championship with victories over Reading and Nottingham Forest although it should be noted that both of these came at Craven Cottage.

As mentioned earlier, Fulham’s away form has been ordinary to say the least with an overall record of  3-2-8  17/30, only Blackpool (31 goals against) have conceded more than them on the road in the Championship this season.

Despite wins at Birmingham City, Brighton and Leeds United, these were all registered against clubs that were (and in Leeds’s case, still are) struggling at the time of being played. But recent defeats against Brentford, Bournemouth and Cardiff City have been more the norm for Kit Symons’ side who just can’t take a trick on their travels.

So, despite growing speculation of a move away from Blackburn, I’ll back striker Gestede and partner Rhodes to have the edge over the visitors today in what could be a 2-0 win for Rovers.
