BLACKPOOL v CHARLTON – Pick: 2 AH-0.25 – 17 March 2015

Seasiders look resigned to relegation

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Tuesday 17th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Blackpool slumped to their fifth straight defeat in the Championship on the weekend when they went down 4-0 away at a rampant Bournemouth, which leaves Lee Clark’s side stranded at the foot of the table.

Indeed, it’s now nine matches without a win in England’s second tier and they find themselves in dire trouble, some nine points adrift of second from bottom Millwall and what is becoming an unassailable 18 points adrift of Rotherham United in 21st place.

It’s a dramatic decline in fortunes for The Seasiders who, only just a couple of years ago, were playing Premier League football, but it’s becoming ever more likely that they’ll be hosting League One football next season at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool’s home record reads a disappointing  4-4-10  16/29 and they’ve lost three of their last four on home turf with defeats to Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

Visitors Charlton Athletic suffered a somewhat surprising 3-1 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday which put an end to their recent impressive winning run. Three wins on the trot against  Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City had revived The Addicks’ fortunes, but the defeat to Rovers places them in a mid-table position as a result.

Charlton have produced some mixed results on the road in the past few weeks with wins at Wigan and Cardiff, but have also lost at Middlesbrough and Derby County which are quite understandable with both of those sides pushing for automatic promotion.

Charlton’s away record stands at  4-7-7  16/28 but they’ve performed pretty well away at bottom half opposition so far this season.

Despite the recent away defeats, I feel Charlton stand a good chance of claiming the points at Bloomfield Road this evening against a Blackpool side who are looking bereft of confidence. Give the quarter ball on the visitors who might edge this one perhaps 1-0.
