Blue Square Conference
Kidderminster Harriers (16th) v AFC Wimbledon (1st)
Sunday 26th September 2010 – 3pm
Returning back to the Conference for another tilt at some good odds on offer as Kidderminster Harriers take on newly promoted AFC Wimbledon at their Aggborough Stadium on Sunday.
The Dons have started their second season in the upper tier of non-league football very well thank you very much, following a season of consolidation where they finished up in 8th place, they now look to kick on and get promoted up to the big time – back where they belong I reckon, and I for one hope they achieve this.
Kiddie have had a bit of a mixed start to their new Conference season, as their home stats suggest; 1-2-2 9/10 – they lost 3-4 v Southport, 1-3 v Mansfield Town, draws against Tamworth (2-2) and Cambridge United (0-0) were the sandwich between a 3-1 win over Hayes & Yeading.
However, Hayes & Yeading do possess the worst defensive record in the Conference to date, conceding 24 goals in total.
Former Tamworth midfielder Nick Wright (4 goals) and fellow midfielder Callum Gittings (3 goals, 3 assists) are the dangermen for the midlands club.
AFC Wimbledon will go into this match brimming with confidence following their 2-1 top-of-the-table win over Crawley United midweek. They trailed 0-1 at half-time, but an inspirational team-talk delivered by manager Terry Brown must have done the trick as two goals in the last 15 minutes turned the game around.
Striker Danny Kedwell (9 goals, 4 assists) is on absolute fire, and he’s also backed up with players such as fellow forward Jon Main (1 assist), but had a decent haul of 12 goals last season.
The Dons away results are as follows; 1-0 at Southport, 0-1 at Rushden & Diamonds, 3-2 at Eastbourne Borough, 2-1 at Kettering Town, then a -03 loss at Luton Town.
Losses away to Rushden and Luton Town are forgivable as both are former football league sides and are expected to be strong at home – and I was waiting to see what happened in the Crawley match before picking them in this fixture, but I’m going into this one fairly confident of an away win here.
The Verdict: AFC Wimbledon are on a roll at the moment, and with Kedwell and Main up front they possess plenty of firepower, and I expect them to have too much for The Harriers in this match.
