Next, I take a look at the English lower leagues and in particular League One as we hit the midway stage of the domestic season in the English third tier, with my first game featuring a Bolton Wanderers side keen to make a swift return to the Championship.
Bolton have made a good start to their campaign in League One following their disappointing showing in the Championship which ended in relegation last season, but with an impressive home record so far which stands at 7-3-1 17/6 which includes five wins on the trot, The Trotters look to be in the box seat here today.
Recent wins gained over Oldham Athletic, Port Vale, Millwall, Coventry City and Gillingham has seen Bolton build momentum at their Macron Stadium and they’ll also be keen to bounce back from defeat last time out when they lost 1-0 away at Chesterfield.
Visitors Shrewsbury Town head into this Boxing Day clash in confident mood having put together back-to-back wins against Millwall and Bristol Rovers who are both situated in and around the mid-table to bottom half of the division, but they’ll face a stern examination at Bolton this afternoon I daresay.
The Shrews’ recent win at Millwall ended a dismal run of seven league matches without a win away from home in League One, and it remains to be seen whether they’ve turned a corner or if this was a rare victor on the road.
Shrewsbury’s away record so far stands at a disappointing 2-3-6 10/19 with their only other success on their travels being a 3-2 win at bottom club Oldham Athletic back in September.
