Boreham Wood registered just their second home win of the season on Saturday afternoon when they beat Welling United 2-0 which has helped them avoid the bottom four of the division, but they’re expected to face a much tougher test this evening when they take on Aldershot Town.
Saturday’s win was Boreham Wood’s first success in their last seven attempts on home turf since their opening day win of the National League season over Halifax Town 3-1. Since then, they’ve suffered defeats to Forest Green Rovers, Grimsby Town, Bromley, Wrexham and Altrincham amidst an overall record of 2-1-5 9/11.
Boreham Wood have also failed to score on three occasions at home so far this season, while keeping just one clean sheet in reply and this could be an important factor in deciding tonight’s outcome.
Visitors Aldershot Town come into tonight’s encounter at Boreham Wood on the back of a solid 2-0 home win over Altrincham on Saturday which has lifted them up into the mid-table positions in the National League.
Despite recent defeats to the stronger teams in the division such as Forest Green Rovers, Tranmere Rovers and Macclesfield Town, The Shots are more than capable of picking up pints against the ‘lesser’ teams as recent wins over Altrincham, Torquay United and Barrow testify.
Aldershot’s away record reads a fairly solid-looking 4-1-3 13/12 and they’ve won four of their last six away matches with additional wins at Guiseley and Braintree Town, while leading goalscorer Charlie Walker (7 goals) looks the likeliest anytime goalscorer for the visitors.
Boreham Wood have struggled to come to terms with the step up so far this season, and I believe Aldershot can gain at least a point here tonight, if not all three – could be a 2-1 win for the visitors but accept the attractively-priced quarter-ball in Aldershot’s favour.
