BOURNEMOUTH v SHEFFIELD WEDS – Pick: 1 AH-1.25 – 18 April 2015

Cherries look to extend lead at top of Championship

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 18th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Championship leaders Bournemouth will be chasing a fourth consecutive league win when they host Sheffield Wednesday at Dean Court on Saturday following wins over Birmingham City, Brighton and a midweek win at Reading.

Bournemouth have certainly hit their straps at the right moment with the season approaching it’s final weeks, The Cherries have put together a ten-match unbeaten run to reclaim top spot in the English second tier, but they have Norwich City and Watford just one point behind them.

Bournemouth have been very impressive in the Championship all season, and manager Eddie Howe must surely be in the box-seat for manager of the season for his club. Their overall home record stands at  12-6-3  43/23 and they’ve won their last four on the trot on home soil.

Anytime goalscorers for the hosts look like Wilson, Kermorgant or Pitman.

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit in a comfortable mid-table position, but are actually in the ‘third tier’ within the division as the league has appeared to split into very definable sub-sections. Their mid-table position is justified on the back of a whole heap of mixed results in recent weeks with wins over Rotherham United and Brentford, defeats to Wolves and Norwich City (both away from home) and draws against Fulham, Huddersfield and Charlton.

Ar first glance, their inconsistencies seem to continue away from home as they’ve lost five of their last eight, but managed wins at Millwall, Blackpool and Rotherham United. But these wins have been achieved at three of the bottom four clubs in the Championship, while a trip to league leaders Bournemouth should provide them with a much sterner test.

The Owls’ away record stands at  9-5-7  24/26 which again, at first glance, appears to be a steady record on the road, but they’ve lost their last four on the trot against top half opposition on the road.

I’ll give the nod to Bournemouth therefore who are on a great roll at the moment and their winning momentum should also see them cover the asian line here too. Could be a 2-0 win for The Cherries.
