BRADFORD v CHESTERFIELD – Pick: X – 31 March 2015

Bantams and Spireites in stalemate at Valley Parade

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 31st March 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Bradford City will play a third home match on the trot when they entertain Chesterfield at Valley Parade on Tuesday night with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches overall in League One.

Bradford registered a useful 2-0 home win over Oldham Athletic at the weekend which keeps them in touch with sixth placed Rochdale with The Bantams just two points adrift of Dale who occupy the last remaining play-off spot. Three points tonight for the hosts would see Bradford replace Rochdale in sixth position.

However, Bradford have drawn three of these last five unbeaten matches with stalemates against Coventry City, Notts County and Fleetwood Town, while they’ve been unbeaten in their last six on home turf with an overall record of  7-6-6  25/23.

Visitors Chesterfield head into tonight’s encounter with similar ambitions as their hosts tonight as they too sit on a total of 54 points and are just one league place above Bradford with exactly the same goal difference (+6).

The Spireites kept their play-off dreams alive on the weekend when they beat Walsall 1-0 at their Proact Stadium and their home form has been a contributing factor to this season’s success as they’ve won three of their last four on home soil.

However, three defeats from their last four on the road has cost Chesterfield vital ground in the play-off race, with recent defeats at Scunthorpe United, Rochdale and Peterborough United, but they did manage a 2-1 win at MK Dons recently as well.

Chesterfield’s away record stands at  5-5-8  20/25.

It’s Tuesday night football under the floodlights, my gut says that Bradford might just have the advantage, but both teams will be keen to at least avoid defeat as a draw still keeps them in the frame and reduces Rochdale’s deficit to a single point. I think the value therefore lies on the draw here, perhaps a 1-1 result.
