Sporting Braga have the opportunity to further cement their Europa League credentials on Monday evening when they entertain 11th placed Estoril at their Estádio AXA knowing a win tonight would put them a commanding 9 points ahead of 6th placed Pacos de Ferreira.
Sporting Braga have lost just once in their last nine in the Primeira Liga which was a 3-2 loss away at Sporting Lisbon, but recent wins over Academica, Nacional and a 5-1 thumping of Rio Ave have maintained their push for European football next season.
Braga’s overall home record is also a good one which stands at 6-2-1 24/6 with only Benfica (33 goals) scoring more home goals than tonight’s hosts this season to date. In addition, Braga have kept four clean sheets on home turf so far this term.
Visitors Estoril were handed a 3-1 defeat at home by Porto last time out in the Primeira Liga as they continue to find any sort of consistency from week to week in the Portuguese top flight; but just two wins from their last 14 league matches overall tells its own story as they currently sit in the bottom half of the division.
Estoril’s away record stands at a fairly poor 2-2-6 6/14 and a lack of goals on the road this season has hampered their ambitions of a top half finish so far as they’ve failed to score on 6 occasions out of their 10 away matches to date.
Estoril now come up against a pretty well organised Braga defensive unit tonight, so I’ll back the home side to cover the asian line here this evening.
