BRAINTREE v SOUTHPORT – Pick: 1 – 11 October 2014

Braintree to bounce back after tough run

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Saturday 11th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Braintree Town will be looking to register all three points again when they return to their Amlin Stadium this afternoon having gone four matches without a win in the Conference.

Braintree’s last league win came away at Aldershot Town in a 3-1 win in mid-September, but since then, The Iron have had some difficult games recently with an away defeat at Eastleigh at Silverlake Stadium, which was followed by back-to-back home draws with Halifax Town and Barnet 0-0 and 1-1 respectively, but it should be noted that these two are currently in the top three of the Conference.

Last Saturday Braintree lost away at second placed Gateshead so again, that was an understandable result but they have a great opportunity to return to winning ways at home today against third from bottom club Southport.

Onto Southport then, and the Sandgrounders seem to have run aground literally as they currently reside in third from bottom position in the Conference. They’ve won just once in their last seven matches and that was a shock 1-0 win away at Grimsby Town who seem to be struggling at their Blundell Park ground so far this term.

Southport earned a point at home during midweek in a 3-3 draw with Lincoln City, but they’ve conceded way too many goals recently and possess the fourth worst defensive record at the moment in the division – 12 goals leaked in their last five tells its own story.

Southport’s away record stands at  1-2-4  6/13 going into today’s match, and they face a tough task of getting something at braintree this afternoon despite their hosts not winning in their last four.

Braintree have a good record at the Amlin Stadium and they should account for Southport here in what could be a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Pick: Braintree Town straight win @ 1.62 Ladbrokes
