Football – World – CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifier Betting Tips
Brazil sent out a very loud and clear message to the rest of the South American teams in the CONMEBOL section of the World Cup qualifiers by thrashing Uruguay 4-1 at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo last week to move seven points clear at the top of the group.
Bizarrely, the on-field and off-field aspects of Brazilian football couldn’t be further apart at this juncture with the administrative piece in total disarray, while the national team on the field march in decisive fashion towards qualification for the World Cup finals in Russia next year.
As a result of the chaos at the administrative level, the Maracana is in total disrepair and so Brazil will host Paraguay at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo. But having won their last seven matches on the bounce, confidence is high, not least of all for midfielder Paulinho whose career has been revived in China, along with bagging a hat-trick against Uruguay last week.
Visitors Paraguay registered an important 2-1 home win over Ecuador last week which has kept them in touch with the teams chasing Brazil for the remaining automatic qualifying spots for Russia, along with the fifth placed Inter-continental play-off place.
Paraguay are now just two points adrift of that play-off spot and three points behind Colombia who currently occupy the last remaining automatic qualification berth, so there’s everything to play for as Paraguay make the trip to Sao Paulo.
However, as mentioned in my Chile versus Venezuela preview, Paraguay are the second lowest goalscorers away from home throughout this World Cup qualifying phase to date with just 4 goals to their name on their travels, amidst an overall away record of 2-1-3 4/8.
It’s therefore going to be a very difficult task for Paraguay to keep up with the blistering pace that Brazil are setting right now, hence my pick!
