BRISTOL CITY v COVENTRY – Pick: 1 AH-1 – 18 April 2015

Robins' firepower too strong for resurgent Sky Blues

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 18th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

League One leaders Bristol City sealed promotion back to the Championship in some style with a resounding 6-0 thrashing of Bradford City at The Valley during the week, and they’ll now return to Ashton Gate to take on a resurgent Coventry City.

Bristol City are currently enjoying a twelve-match unbeaten run in League One which includes important wins over teams such as Rochdale and Swindon Town along with holding second placed Preston North End to a 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

The Robins’ home record is an impressive one which stands at  15-4-2  40/15 where they’ve won four of their last six with wins over Peterborough United, Rochdale, Crewe Alexandra and Swindon Town (all to nil, and scoring 9 goals in the process), and with the attacking firepower of forwards Wilbraham (18 goals), Agard (10 goals) and Freeman (7 goals) with support from Emmanuel-Thomas (7 goals), they will certainly be on the front foot here this afternoon.

Although visitors Coventry City remain in the wrong half of League One, new manager Tony Mowbray has turned around the Sky Blues during his short stint at the club already. Following a run of poor results with the club apparently going nowhere, former manager Steven Pressley was shown the door with Mowbray taking over in early March.

At that stage, Coventry were just one league position and one point above the bottom four and dangerously close to being sucked down into the relegation trap-door, but decent wins over Fleetwood Town, Peterborough United and Colchester United have lifted them away from their precarious position.

The Sky Blues remain just four points above the relegation zone, but the signs of recovery are well and truly evident and they should have enough to avoid the drop under Mowbray.

While Coventry’s revival is encouraging and Mowbray has has a positive effect on his troops, a trip to Bristol City may just be out of their reach at the moment as the re-building process continues. The Robins’ attacking options are deadly at this level, and so I’ll back them to cover the asian line here with perhaps a 2-0 or 3-1 win. If Bristol win by one goal we get our stake back.
