Burnley went into the international break on the back of a 2-1 away win at Rotherham United and they now host the all-important Lancashire derby against arch-rivals Bolton Wanderers at Turf Moor this afternoon.
Burnley are in pretty good nick right now having won five of their last seven in the Championship with recent wins registered over Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Rotherham United, showing they can be ruthless against the lesser lights of the division.
Despite this being a local derby, Burnley will fancy their chances of securing another three points here this afternoon which could lift them up into the automatic promotion places, while their overall home record stands at a solid-looking 3-1-1 9/6.
Former Wolves striker Sam Vokes could be a good anytime goalscorer option here today for The Clarets.
Visitors Bolton Wanderers have now gone four Championship matches without a win following draws with Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton (both at home) while suffering defeats on their travels away at Huddersfield Town 4-1 and QPR 4-3.
But it’s Bolton’s away form which has really let The Trotters down so far this season as they’re still without a win on the road and have actually lost four of their first five away matches to date amidst a poor record of 0-1-4 4/12.
Bolton’s defence has allowed the most number of away goals in the division, and they’ve failed to score in four of their last six away matches. On a larger scale, Bolton have registered just one away win from their last 15 in the Championship which is a poor record indeed!
So, despite the local derby, I feel Burnley are the better equipped side to take the points here and they could duly take this perhaps 2-1 in a blood and thunder encounter.
