BURTON v CAMBRIDGE – Pick: 1 – 03 October 2014

Brewers to edge U's in Friday night encounter

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Friday 3rd October 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Burton Albion will go in search of a sixth home win on the bounce in Friday night’s clash with Cambridge United at the Pirelli Stadium as they look to maintain their 100% record on home turf.

The Brewers have racked up five straight wins in front of their home fans with wins over Dagenham & Redbridge, Exeter City, Portsmouth, York City and Cheltenham Town in addition to keeping four clean sheets from these five matches which will have pleased manager Gary Rowett no end, being a former defender himself.

Burton’s home record therefore stands at  5-0-0  8/1 and they’ve lost just twice in their last fifteen matches at the Pirelli so they hold a very solid record there all up.

The attacking trio of Beavon, McGurk and Akins should create plenty of goalscoring opportunities tonight.

Visitors Cambridge United find themselves in the bottom half in their return season to League Two, currently sitting in 18th place with an overall away record of  1-2-2  7/8. After a reasonable start where they picked up three wins from their first seven matches, Richard Money’s boys have since slumped to three straight defeats to Exeter City and Luton Town (both at home) along with last Saturday’s defeat away at Wycombe Wanderers.

The U’s face another tough task of getting something at Burton tonight particularly given the hosts’s home results so far this season.

Cambridge have won on the road just once so far this season which was a 3-2 win away at Dagenham & Redbridge who are just one place below them in the division.

Burton quite rightly start as favourites for this match, and whilst Cambridge should have enough to hold their own against the teams around them in League Two, I feel tonight may well be a bridge too far for The U’s – I’ll back The Brewers for the points tonight at a good price. Burton to edge this perhaps 1-0.
