Next up is an intriguing midlands derby between Burton Albion and Coventry City at the Pirelli Stadium as the hosts, Burton Albion, look to chalk up a fourth consecutive win in League One following their promotion from League Two at the end of last season.
Burton manager Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink has proved there is life after Gary Rowett as he’s continued the good work that was achieved in earlier seasons by former managers Nigel Clough, Roy McFarland and Paul Peschisolido as well, of course, as Rowett.
Hasselbaink achieved promotion in his first season as a manager in England and his side have responded in positive fashion this term as they currently sit in third place having won four of their first five League One matches. Dutch striker El Khayati looks the main threat up front for The Brewers.
Visitors Coventry City have now gone two matches without a win in England’s third tier as they lost in the midlands derby away at Walsall 2-1 which was then followed up with a point at home against Southend United in a 2-2 draw.
Tony Mowbray’s side had started the season in explosive fashion as they racked up three straight wins against Wigan Athletic, Millwall and Crewe Alexandra, but it remains if the Sky Blues can put together consistent results on the road this season as they struggled last term.
Tony Mowbray replaced former manager Steven Pressley who had failed to build upon his notable achievement the season before last where he kept Coventry City up in League One despite starting that season with a 10-point deduction due to the club falling into administration.
But things are looking good at the Pirelli Stadium so far this season and I’m confident that Burton Albion can at least avoid defeat here in what could perhaps turn out to be a 1-0 win for the hosts.
