BURTON v EXETER – Pick: 1 – 19 August 2014

Brewers to roll out the barrel against Grecians

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 19th August 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Burton Albion left it late to grab all three points on Saturday when they eventually beat Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 at their Pirelli Stadium to keep their 100% record intact this season.

It’s early days of course, but Saturday’s win shows the resilience and character of Gary Rowett’s side who narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two at the end of their last campaign as they went down 0-1 to eventual winners Fleetwood Town at Wembley back in May.

But The Brewers have started in strong fashion again this term with back-to-back League Two wins over Oxford United 1-0 away and Saturday’s late show against The Daggers, along with claiming a former Premiership scalp in midweek when they beat Championship outfit Wigan Athletic 2-1 at home in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The significance of that League Cup win over Wigan shouldn’t be underestimated either as striker Billy Kee only came on as a second half substitute, and he scored a brace against Dagenham on the weekend.

Visitors Exeter City are experiencing a few difficulties even at this early stage of the season – amidst a growing injury list, The Grecians are still without a win having drawn 1-1 with Portsmouth at home in their opening match of this term, but then suffered defeat in the first round of the League Cup at the hands of fellow south coast outfit Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

A local derby against west country rivals Plymouth Argyle then beckoned at the weekend and if ever there was a game to lift the squad and performance it would be the clash with The Pilgrims. Sadly, Exeter succumbed again at Home Park in a demoralising 0-3 defeat which can only have rubbed the existing salt into an increasingly worrying wound.

In a nutshell, Burton should comfortably take all three points here this evening with ease and I’m tipping perhaps a 1-0 or 2-0 home win here for The Brewers.
