BURTON v YORK – Pick: 1 – 13 September 2014

Brewers to edge plucky York at the Pirelli

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 13th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Burton Albion will be looking to continue their excellent start to their new League Two campaign by chalking up a fourth successive league win at The Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon when they host York City.

Burton have beaten all-comers to their Pirelli Stadium this season including big name scalps of Premier League QPR and championship side Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup, along with League Two wins over Dagenham & Redbridge, Exeter City and Portsmouth which has helped lift The Brewers into top spot.

Burton possess a very good home record of  3-0-0  5/1 ahead of today’s fixture, but they’ve lost just twice in their last thirteen on home turf as Gary Rowett’s men have made themselves a very hard unit to break down in their own backyard.

Adam McGurk and Lucas Akins are Burton’s main threats up front along with Beavon and Weir pulling the strings and providing the chances.

Visitors York City have made a less dramatic start to the season but nevertheless, Nigel Worthington’s charges have put together an unbeaten run of six matches so far and still remain unbeaten.

However, I’m sure Worthington would have traded two or three draws for another win as York have drawn five of their six matches and this could be cause for concern for this pick today. Let’s drill down a bit then and look at York’s away record.

Draws at Tranmere Rovers and Exeter City were against teams that currently occupy a mid-to-lower half of the table position with just one win between them, while last Saturday’s win at Stevenage again was against a side that have won at home just once so far this term.

With Burton on a roll, I’m confident they have enough firepower to dispose of York today in what could be either a 1-0 or 2-1 win for the hosts.
