Shakers on a roll at Gigg Lane

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 1st November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Fifth placed Bury will be looking forward to returning to their Gigg Lane ground when they take on Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon as they look to reduce the three points deficit on League Two leaders Luton Town.

Quite frankly, Bury have been lousy away from home in recent weeks with back-to-back defeats at AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury Town (the latter ending in a 0-5 rout at the hands of play-off rivals), but they did get a point at Southend United in a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall which wasn’t a bad result.

But it’s at Gigg Lane where all the action has been for The Shakers with an overall home record of  6-0-1  14/5 with their one defeat coming against Cheltenham Town in their opening home match of the season. Since then, Bury haven’t looked back as they’ve registered six straight consecutive wins which has put them in the frame for at least play-off contention as it stands now.

Cambridge United took all three points in last Saturday’s 2-1 home win over bottom club Hartlepool United which consolidated their mid-table position, and The U’s have lost just once in their last five league matches and that was a 1-2 home defeat to Cheltenham Town.

Away from home though has been a bit of a mixed bag for Richard Money’s boys as they’ve recorded wins at Dagenham & Redbridge and third placed Burton Albion, lost at Wycombe Wanderers, and also nicked points at Newport County and Mansfield Town in draws.

Their away record stands at a so-so  2-3-2  10/9 and they’ve won one, drawn one and lost one in their three away matches at top half opposition to date.

Bury have been on fire though at home and with six straight home wins behind them, I’ll back the hosts but give the quarter ball in case it ends up a draw – after all, all good runs come to an end sometime. Bury might nick this perhaps 2-1.
