The second of the Spanish Segunda Division semi-final play-offs start tonight in the first leg between hosts, Cadiz, and Tenerife at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza, with the hosts coming into this clash on the back of a solid run of results.
Cadiz finished in fifth place and just two points adrift of tonight’s opponents Tenerife at the end of the regular season, and they bring into this first leg just one defeat from their last 11 matches overall, which was a last day 1-0 loss away at Real Valladolid.
But it’s been Cadiz’s form on home turf that has been the catalyst behind their success this season with an overall record of 10-8-3 28/14 behind them as they prepare for this vital first leg at home. Look out for striker and leading goalscorer Oruno (17 goals) as a potential anytime scorer for the hosts.
Visitors Tenerife finished their season in fourth spot in the Spanish Segunda Division but four points adrift of automatically promoted Girona, so they head into the play-off semi-finals where they’ll be looking to keep things level here this evening with a view to striking in the second leg at their Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez Lopéz.
Tenerife improved their overall away record to 6-9-6 25/23 in the latter stages of the regular season thanks to wins on the road at Alcorcon and Real Zaragoza, but it should be noted that both of these wins came against bottom half opposition.
That said, they’ve lost just once in their last 12 matches on their travels, so they’re to be respected in this first leg as well as having registered a 1-0 win earlier in the season at Cadiz back in March.
