CAMBRIDGE UNITED v NUNEATON TOWN
Football – England – Blue Square Premier
Saturday 22nd December 2012 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Mid-table Cambridge United take on second from bottom club Nuneaton Town at the Abbey Business Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to extend their unbeaten run to six matches in the BSP.

Cambridge have improved of late with wins over Macclesfield Town 2-0 at home, a 4-2 win at Ebbsfleet United and a 3-0 win over Gateshead combined with points against Tamworth and Alfreton Town in midweek. At home, Cambridge United have lost just once in their last five home fixtures which was a 0-1 reverse against Hyde back at the end of October.

The U’s home record stands at  5-2-4  20/16 and they’ve failed to score on just one occasion in their last twelve home matches and this particular statistic will become very relevant indeed when I concentrate on the away side’s goalscoring prowess (or lack thereof).

Onto Nuneaton Town then and the midlanders have found life in the non-league elite tough going so far, particularly away from home where they’ve recorded just the one success to date. However, Nuneaton have been solid at home having lost just twice but it’s a very different story on their travels.

Their away record stands at  1-3-8  9/27 and not only have they conceded the most number of away goals of all the teams in the bottom four, they’ve also suffered the most number of away defeats (8) along with Woking and Hyde. To make matters even worse, Nuneaton have failed to score in four of their last five away matches and on the occasion where they did net, they were on the receiving end of a 1-6 thrashing at Wrexham!

So, a team that has failed to score just once in their last twelve at home versus a team second from bottom who have failed to score in four of their last five away – hmmm, surely Cambridge can’t fail to win this one? I’ll back Cambridge for a straight win here perhaps 1-0.

Pick: Cambridge United straight win @ 1.80 William Hill
