CAMBRIDGE v SOUTHEND – Pick: X – 26 December 2014

Draw on the cards at Abbey Stadium

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Friday 26th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1300hrs

Cambridge United earned a point away at Tranmere Rovers last Friday night thanks to a last-minute equaliser by defender Michael Nelson which extend Cambridge’s unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions.

Cambridge now return to the Abbey Stadium where they’ve lost just once in their last five, but have registered wins against Oxford United, Hartlepool United and Northampton Town as well as a 0-0 draw with second placed Shrewsbury Town.

The U’s’ home record stands at  5-1-4  18/10 which isn’t too bad, but it’s worth noting that they’ve drawn three of their last four matches overall with a 2-2 draw with Mansfield Town in the FA Cup, a 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury Town at home and Friday night’s draw at Tranmere Rovers.

Visitors Southend United have lost just once in their last seven league matches which was a 4-1 loss at League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers but they’ve recently beaten the likes of Hartlepool United, Tranmere Rovers and Northampton Town.

The Shrimpers’ away record stands at  5-1-4  11/14 and as their record reflects, their results have been very hit-and-miss for most of the season. Four wins and three defeats has been their return in their last seven on the road but their last match on Saturday finished up as a 0-0 draw with Burton Albion.

Overall, both teams go into this afternoon’s encounter in reasonable form so I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up a stalemate, perhaps a 1-1 score-draw.
