Play-off bound Cambridge to be too strong for Stockport

Football – England – Blue Square Premier

Saturday 5th January 2013 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Eighth placed Cambridge United take on lowly Stockport County at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to extend their eight match unbeaten run by taking all three points against the visitors today.

Cambridge United have put in some solid performances in the last few weeks with wins over Macclesfield Town, Ebbsfleet United, Gateshead and Braintree Town home and away along with points taken against Tamworth, Alfreton and Dartford. At home, Cambridge have won three of their last four at the Abbey with the other result being a 1-1 draw with Tamworth.

Cambridge’s home record stands at  6-2-4  21/16 and they’ve certainly turned things around in a very positive way following a horror end of August to end of September where they went four matches without a win on home soil.

But Richard Money’s men are made of sterner stuff these days and it could be a long afternoon for the visitors Stockport County who have won just once away from home in their last five matches.

Onto Stockport County then and a New Years Day win at Hyde ended a run of four away matches without a win but can they repeat these heroics at a difficult Cambridge United? Stockport’s away record stands at  3-5-4  12/16 and scoring goals on the road has been a bit of a problem for the northerners with Stockport failing to score on five occasions from their 12 away matches.

At the other end of the pitch, Stockport have kept just three clean sheets in their twelve matches on the road and this could be the telling statistic in this fixture as Cambridge have their tails up in front of their home crowd at the moment.

With home advantage and three wins from their last four on home soil I have to go for the hosts here and they should have too much for their visitors today in what could be a 2-0 win for Cambridge United. Straight win here.

Pick:  Cambridge United straight win @ 1.80 Pinnacle
