CAMBRIDGE v TAMWORTH – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 17 November 2012

Cambridge to kick-start season against visiting Lambs

National League Tips

Football – England – Blue Square Premier

Saturday 17th November 2012 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Cambridge United will be looking to climb away from the lower half of the BSP when they take on a Tamworth side who have suffered a dramatic dip in form lately, at their Abbey Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Cambridge currently occupy 18th place in the non-league Premier division which is largely down to some mixed results recently; 4-1 wins over Barrow and Mansfield Town along with last weekend’s 2-0 win over Macclesfield Town have been off-set by defeats against Woking, Hyde and a 2-6 hammering courtesy of league leaders Newport County a couple of weeks ago.

Cambridge’s home record stands at  4-1-4  16/15 which reflects their inconsistencies perfectly, but they do have a good opportunity to turn their fortunes around at home given today’s opponent’s poor run of form.

Leading scorer is Tom Elliott (8 goals) and has Michael Gash (5 goals, 2 assists) up front alongside him with Danny Andrew (4 assists), James Jennings (2 goals, 3 assists) and Robbie Willmott (2 goals, 2 assists) also likely to be a handful.

Visitors Tamworth have endured a sudden dip in form in recent weeks with four straight losses (1-2 at Hyde and 0-2 at Macclesfield, and home defeats against Ebbsfleet United and Grimsby Town) along with a point at home versus AFC Telford, The Lambs have taken just a solitary point in their last possible 15.

On the road, Tamworth have won just five matches from their last seventeen in the division, and against a Cambridge United side looking to pull away from the bottom quarter, they could have their work cut out for them again this afternoon. Adam Cunnington (11 goals) and former Grimsby Town midfielder Peter Till (3 assists) are the main goal threats for Tamworth, but it’s worth noting that they’ve failed to score in their last four league matches.

Cambridge United have been disappointing so far this term but they have a great chance to kick-start their season against a Tamworth side struggling for confidence at the moment. I’ll add the -0.25 handicap though as Cambridge haven’t been prolific recently either!

This could be a 2-1 win for the hosts today.

Pick:  Cambridge United AH-0.25 @ 1.72 Pinnacle
