CARLISLE v NORTHAMPTON – Pick: 1 AH0 – 20 December 2014

Cumbrians to avoid defeat to Cobblers

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 20th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Carlisle United return to Brunton Park this afternoon when they take on Northampton Town with the hosts looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in League Two.

Carlisle now occupy second from bottom spot in the division, but despite a poor run of four defeats from their last five league matches overall, there is optimism that The Cumbrians can get something from today’s encounter at Brunton Park.

Carlisle have won four of their last six on home turf with wins over Tranmere Rovers, Stevenage, Oxford United and Accrington Stanley while their home record has now improved to  4-2-4  17/10 – the two defeats from their last six were to top six teams Burton Albion and Newport County.

Visitors Northampton Town are currently in 16th place in League Two and they make the trip up to the northeast today looking to avoid a third successive defeat having previously lost against Southend United and Plymouth Argyle.

It’s actually just two wins from Northampton’s last ten league matches and these were both registered at their Sixfields Stadium with wins over AFC Wimbledon and Stevenage (both in the bottom half of League Two).

The story doesn’t get much better away from home as The Cobblers have lost their last four on the trot with defeats at Cheltenham Town, Luton Town, Cambridge United and Southend United while their overall away record stands at a disappointing  2-2-6  10/15.

So, with Carlisle’s improved home form against Northampton’s recent poor results on the road, I’ll back the hosts with the attractively priced round ball here as they might just edge this one perhaps 2-1.
