It’s just the second game of the Italian Serie A season but already the writing appears to be making itself evident on the proverbial wall for Serie A new-boys Carpi as they capitulated to a heavy 5-2 defeat away at Sampdoria on the opening day last week.
Carpi now hold home advantage at their Stadio Sandro Cabassi ground this evening when they take on Inter Milan and they’ll be hoping to get something from this match to open their account in the Italian top flight.
Carpi have won once so far this season which was a 2-0 extra-time win over Livorno at home in the first round of the Coppa Italia, but their pre-season wasn’t a success as they lost 4-2 way at tonight’s opponents Inter Milan and then followed up with a 1-0 loss away at Perugia.
Visitors Inter Milan opened their account on the first day of the new Italian season with a 1-0 home win over Atalanta, and they now have an interesting trip to Carpi as they look to register back-to-back wins in Serie A for the first time since the end of April (last season) when they secured wins against AS Roma and Udinese.
Inter have lost just twice in their last eight on the road in Serie A which were defeats at Sampdoria and Genoa, but they did rack up wins at Atalanta, Cagliari, Hellas Verona, Udinese and Lazio – the latter being against the third placed team at the end of the season.
With Carpi still finding their feet at this level, I believe Inter Milan have the ‘street-smarts’ to take this match with perhaps a 1-0 or 2-0 win for the visitors at good odds.
