One of the surprise packages of this year’s Europa League, Celta Vigo, will play host to Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final this evening as they look to take advantage of their Estadio de Balaídos.
If Celta Vigo are to progress to the final though, they’ll have to improve upon their recent results which have seen the Spanish side without a win from their last four matches overall as they’ve drawn away at Genk in the previous round of the Europa League, together with three straight defeats in La Liga to Real Betis, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao.
Despite the defeat on the weekend, Celta Vigo fielded a weaker side and so should be able to recall their better players for tonight’s clash. Look out for Aspas (17 goals) as a potential anytime goalscorer for Celta tonight.
Visitors Manchester United succumbed to yet another draw on the weekend when they were held to a very disappointing 1-1 draw by Premier League strugglers Swansea City, and it’s becoming increasingly apparent that Mourinho’s squad are suffering from a lengthy and injury-riddled campaign.
United will be without the likes of Rojo and striker Ibrahimovic with the latter being absent for a while now, and there are concerns over the defensive unit ahead of this important clash with defenders Jones and Smalling rated doubtful tonight, despite returning to training this week.
In addition, United’s away results in this competition have been patchy to say the least as they’ve captured just two wins on their travels from their last nine matches which were at Zorya and Saint-Etienne respectively.
To sum up, I believe Celta Vigo have enough about them to get a result here this evening, and with the possibility of this ending a draw, my pick will be a winning one.
