CHARLTON v SHEFFIELD WEDS – Pick: 1 AH0 – 01 November 2014

Addicks to fall back on Valley form against Owls

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 1st November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Charlton Athletic still sit in the top half of the Championship despite two recent defeats to Bournemouth and Fulham, but they have a chance of resuming normal service at The Valley this afternoon when they entertain Sheffield Wednesday.

After going through the first couple of months unbeaten, Bob Peeters’ side have lost back-to-back away matches, but on home turf they’re still unbeaten with an overall record of  4-3-0  10/6 with wins over Wigan Athletic, Derby County, Watford and Bolton Wanderers. The Addicks have also held Wolves, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City to draws, so they should stand a good chance of at least a point here today.

I’m expecting a more attacking Charlton on Saturday than the one we recently saw at Craven Cottage with Peeters’ side going on the front foot from the off.

Visitors Sheffield Wednesday have gone six Championship matches without a win, and despite losing just twice (to Cardiff City 1-2 away and a 0-3 loss to Watford), they still remain in a mid-table position with four stalemates from their last five matches.

Draws against Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Brentford and Norwich City will be regarded as good results, and they’ve lost just once on their travels so far with an overall away record of  3-3-1  8/5, but against top half opposition The Owls have beaten Middlesbrough (back in August), but lost at Cardiff City (more recently at the end of September).

With Wednesday’s recent spate of draws, I reckon there’s some value to be had on the hosts here who despite their recent two defeats, still possess a good record at The Valley and deserve to be backed with the round ball here today at odds of just over evens – crazy! Charlton might nick this one perhaps 1-0.
