CHARLTON v WOLVES – Pick: 1 AH+0.25 – 16 September 2014

Addicks to stand firm at The Valley

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Tuesday 16th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Charlton Athletic registered a valuable three points on Saturday to overcome fourth placed Watford 1-0 at The Valley and they’ll be looking for a similar result against visitors Wolves this evening.

Charlton have started their new season in solid fashion remaining unbeaten in their opening six matches with the ‘perfect’ footballing blueprint of winning at home, and getting a point on the road. This is exactly what Charlton have done so far with three straight home wins over Wigan Athletic 2-1, Derby County 3-2 and the Watford result on Saturday.

The Addicks’ overall home record therefore stands at an impressive  3-0-0  6/3 and new manager Bob Peeters has the likes of leading goalscorer Vetokele (5 goals) and Belgian midfield duo Buyens (2 goals) and former Nottingham Forest’s Moussa as creative back-up.

Visitors Wolves have also started their return back to the Championship in promising fashion as they currently occupy third place, and a win tonight could see them go top of the division.

Wolves go into tonight’s encounter on the back of three wins from their last four with wins over Fulham 1-0 away and back-to-back home wins over Cardiff City 1-0 and Blackburn Rovers 3-1. However, they could only manage a point away at struggling Blackpool in a 0-0 draw on Saturday, and if Wolves do have a weakness it may be their away form.

Okay, they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage but Fulham are now a shadow of their former selves while Blackpool are struggling at the foot of the Championship. Wolves also lost at Rotherham United who, along with the midlanders, were promoted from League One at the end of last season.

Wolves’ away record stands at  1-1-1  1/1, with Bakary Sako (3 goals) being their major threat from midfield.

To sum up, Charlton have performed well at The Valley and look good for at least a point here while the jury’s still out on this Wolves side as they face their biggest test on their travels in tonight’s match. I’ll back the hosts with the quarter ball and they may well nick this perhaps 1-0.
