Blues to hold Bridge against inconsistent Spurs

Premier League Tips

Football – England – Premier League

Wednesday 3rd December 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Following a bit of a frustrating 0-0 draw away at Sunderland at the weekend, Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge in tonight’s clash against London rivals Tottenham as The Blues go in search of a seventh straight home win in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s side still remain unbeaten after 13 league matches in the top flight, winning 10 of those matches so far. They hold a 100% record on home turf where they possess an overall record of  6-0-0  15/3 which includes wins over top half opposition such as Swansea City 4-2 and close rivals Arsenal 2-0.

Leading goalscorer Diego Costa (11 goals) is suspended for this match due to exceeding the yellow card limit, but Chelsea still have the likes of Remy, Drogba and Schurrle to call upon and they have registered goals in all of their home matches to date, and in fact, have failed to score at The Bridge just twice in their last 34 matches which is an impressive record.

Visitors Tottenham climbed into 7th spot on the back of a 2-1 home win over Everton at White Hart Lane on Saturday to give manager Mauricio Pochettino back-to-back Premiership wins for just the second time this season.

A 2-1 win at Hull City was a welcome three points for his side following an unexpected defeat at home to Stoke City previously, but Tottenham still remain a fairly inconsistent outfit having recently lost to both Newcastle United and Stoke City at home.

On the road, Tottenham possess an overall record of  3-2-1  9/9 but most of their matches on their travels have been at bottom half opposition so far. Nevertheless, Spurs go into tonight’s encounter looking for a third away win on the trot following wins at Aston Villa and Hull City.

Despite Tottenham’s recent wins on the road, they now face arguably the best side in the Premier League tonight in the shape of Chelsea who have been absolutely dominant at Stamford Bridge so far this season. Given Spurs’ inconsistent streak, I’ll therefore back the hosts to not only win tonight but to cover the -1 line too. Could be a 2-0 win for Chelsea.
