CHELTENHAM v OXFORD – Pick: X – 29 November 2014

Robins and U's clash too close to call

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 29th November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Cheltenham Town go into this afternoon’s encounter against Oxford United with a newly named manager following the sacking of former boss Mark Yates after four straight defeats.

Former Luton Town and Torquay United manager Paul Buckle has taken over the reigns at Whaddon Road and will no doubt be keen to halt The Robins’ slide down League Two as his first priority. Cheltenham find themselves in a worrying 18th position thanks to four straight defeats at the hands of Plymouth Argyle, York City, Stevenage and Wycombe Wanderers which ultimately cost Yates his job.

At Whaddon Road, Cheltenham hold a record of  3-3-3  9/11 and Buckle’s first job is to put an end to their back-to-back defeats when Oxford United visit today. Strikers Gornell and Harrison (3 goals apiece) look the most likely to score for The Robins.

Oxford United have produced some mixed results in the last few weeks as they’ve registered wins over Northampton Town and York City away from home but suffered defeats against Carlisle United and Wycombe along with a point against AFC Wimbledon last weekend.

The U’s’ away record stands at a disappointing  2-2-5  9/15 and aside form the wins at Northampton and York, there’s been very little for Oxford’s fans to cheer about as their side have lost five on the road so far.

Striker Hylton (10 goals) poses Oxford’s greatest threat up front and is worth a dabble on the anytime goalscorer markets I reckon.

To sum up though, both teams go into today’s fixture on the back of some indifferent and inconsistent performances. Just two points and one league position separates the two sides and I think we could see a draw here today as Buckle looks to shore things up at the back for Cheltenham. Perhaps 1-1.
