CHESTER v ALTRINCHAM – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 26 December 2014

Chester to see off Alty in Cheshire clash

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Friday 26th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Chester will be keen to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat away at Barnet on the weekend when they entertain Altrincham at their Swansway Chester Stadium on Boxing Day.

However, defeat away at Barnet shouldn’t be taken too seriously as they currently lead the Conference Premier by a comfortable margin of seven points, and Chester’s home form has been pretty solid so far this season which should put them in confident mood ahead of today’s clash.

This is accentuated by the fact that Chester’s last four defeats have all been on their travels which were at Eastleigh, Macclesfield Town, Nuneaton Town and of course Barnet (three of those teams being in the top half of the division). Chester have won four of their last five on home turf and are unbeaten in their last eight matches.

Their home record stands at  7-2-3  14/15 and they’ve also scored in each of their last eight at home too while forwards Hobson and McConville are the most likely anytime goalscorers.

Visitors Altrincham were held to a second draw in succession on Saturday when they drew 2-2 at home with improving Dover Athletic. Altrincham had previously drawn with Forest Green Rovers away and lost at Woking 0-2 prior to that. This means they’ve gone three matches without a win going into today’s match.

Away from home, Altrincham have produced some mixed results with wins at Lincoln City and Wrexham while also having defeats inflicted upon them by AFC Telford and Woking as well as a draw at Forest Green. Their away record stands at  3-3-7  14/26 and they’ve kept just one clean sheet on their travels so far.

In fact Altrincham have kept just one clean sheet from their last thirteen away matches and have registered just three away wins during this sequence.

Despite this being a local derby, I believe Chester’s home form should be too much for their opponents today, but give the quarter ball on the hosts to soften the blow if this ends up a draw. Chester to win this perhaps 2-1 though.
